China National Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (CNCPEC) represents China in the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council. The Institute of Advocacy, Policy and Governance (IPAG) conducted a meeting on August 24 and 25, 2015 in Beijing with CNCPEC.

In this meeting, CNCPEC noted the regional integration dynamics in the Asia-Pacific. Mr. Khasru stated that South Asia needs to be part of the ongoing integration process. Both sides agreed about the importance of institutional cooperation between CNCPEC and IPAG.

Ambassador Tang Guoqiang, Chairman, CNCPEC, Ambassador Zhang Xianyi (Former Ambassador of China to Bangladesh) and Zhenyu Wang, Director/Associate Research Fellow, CNCPEC were present during this discussion.

Although Bangladesh is not a member of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), CNCPEC noted IPAG’s active engagement in the regional integration process in the Asia-Pacific – Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and the FTAAP. IPAG has taken part in the 4th Asia Research Forum held in November 2014 on the TPP, RCEP, and the APEC. IPAG has also been engaged in the One Belt One Road initiative and on August 25, IPAG was one of the organizing partners of the conference ‘One Belt One Road and the BCIM Regional Interconnection’ held in Beijing.

CNCPEC proposed to take initiatives to invite IPAG to conferences, meetings, and relevant initiatives on regional cooperation and integration in the Asia-Pacific region.
